The Gap FC Academy
The Gap FC offers a number of optional training sessions during the season for those interested in additional development on top of their weekly team training. These sessions aim to provide players of every skill and experience level a chance to improve their four core skills of the game: first touch, striking the ball, one v one, and running with the ball. If you would like to find out more information, please email juniorgirls@gapfootball.org.au or youthmetro@gapfootball.org.au, or look out for event invitations arriving in your email.
Below is an outline of our various levels of Academy training on offer.
Upskill Program
These sessions are designed for players who are new to the game and are looking to learn the four core skills. They run once per week for one hour for the duration of the season excluding school holidays. These sessions are a great low-cost option for beginners who want additional training. Coaches for these sessions are from our High-Performance Youth Teams.
Skills Clinics
For those players who have been in the game a little longer and are looking to take their game to the next level, skills clinics are run by our Centre Of Excellence Head Coach, Andy Baudille. Clinics are age group and gender-specific with smaller numbers for more specialist development for like-minded and skilled players.
Andy has formal youth coaching qualifications and has coached high-level teams in Australia and overseas. These sessions run each school term during the season, over six weeks (enrolment offered on a per-term basis).
Centre of Excellence
These sessions are provided as part of the training schedule for those selected for youth high-performance teams. Each player attends the Centre of Excellence sessions for one selected term during the season. They are also run by Andy Baudille.
School Holidays Sessions
Each school holidays our Centre of Excellence offers skills sessions for juniors U6 through U15. These sessions are a fabulous opportunity for newer players to work on developing their core skills whilst our more experienced players are able to continue to develop.
With multiple youth Academy coaches supporting our highly-qualified senior coaching staff, sessions cater to all abilities.
Whilst focusing on development, our coaches also ensure our players get the right balance to ensure sessions are fun and enjoyable for all participants, across the age groups.
The sessions run from 9am to 1pm each day, with snack and drink breaks.
Players can register for all four days, or session by session.
On the final day players have a sausage sizzle lunch.
